I am Fatima Ghassan Hassan, an architect in Baghdad. My work reinterprets the city’s own devices — the shanishil, the souk, the clay tablet — into contemporary buildings that protect privacy, temper the climate, and remember where they stand.

From an 81,000 m² transit hub to a 150 m² craft workshop, every project begins the same way: with what Baghdad already knows.
Screens that guard privacy without closing the house to the street. Courtyards and water that cool before machines do. Facades that carry writing — cuneiform, calligraphy, tile — as both identity and shade. The result is architecture that merges passive environmental efficiency with an intelligent, controlled openness.
